  • Exaggerated Grace

Backsliding happens too often amongst believers. Sinning, as a result of giving in to temptation is something that all Christians might stumble into. Gradually losing that burning heart until the victor succumbs to a lukewarm existence is a sad outcome of many good people.

These are reasons that I staunchly oppose the teaching of exaggerated grace. This damnable, new era philosophy mixes Scriptures with doctrines of demons and gives folks an arrogant, deceived crutch to lean on. It justifies their weak, watered-down lifestyle.

1 Tim 4:1 Now the Spirit expressly says that in latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons

This exaggeration of grace excuses them of feeling the need to walk in God’s power for themselves. Instead, they focus on verses about rest. So, they negate spiritual hunger and thirst. They frown on songs that uses language such as hunger, thirst, or being desperate. They’d rather rest in God.

They don’t like talking about working, running, chasing, or reaching. Rather, they have been tricked into thinking that 1) Christ did it all, thus we don’t have to do anything but rest. 2) we have all of God; He doesn’t give Himself to us in pieces. 3) the water He gives will cause us to never thirst again.

As you can see, all of these diluted points have a little bit of Scripture in them. And, many that specialize in these erroneous beliefs are fairly skilled with the Word. Hence, any disagreement with them will become a contest of tossing Scriptures back and forth at each other. Truth be known, Most of these exaggerated grace proponents have actually fallen and no longer hold to the truths they used to value and cherish. They are backslidden and have tapped into their intelligence to further deceive themselves and others. It seems we are rarely as creative as we are when we need to justify our sin or lukewarmness.

Certainly it is true that Christ won the victory at Calvary. But, don’t forget He told us to pick up the cross and follow Him. He promised that the works He did could be even greater in our lives if we get filled with the Spirit. His commission is for us to go. Christ calls us to action, not a resting vacation.

It sounds clever when folks say things like “we don’t fight for victory; we fight from victory.” But, that doesn’t really make sense, nor does it align with a full context of Scripture.

1 Corinthians 9:24 Do you not know that those who run in a race all run, but only one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may win

Truth is: fighting, striving, wrestling, racing, praying, contending, fasting, and hoping are all things that the New Testament has taught us to engage in.

Rarely will you find someone involved in the exaggerated grace movement who is seeing real conversions. They don’t seem to like altar calls because they think they’re too emotional. They don’t approve of the sinners prayer. Basically, this is just another trick of the enemy to dumb down and soften the salvation experience. “Just believe” sounds good, and it even comes from pieces of Scripture. Nevertheless, it excludes other Scriptures that require something of the convicted person. And, it keeps the experience limited to an intellectual one.

Also, it isn’t easy to find a strong grace specialist who sees signs, wonders, miracles and healings.

    2 Tim 3:5

holding to a form of godliness, although they have denied its power; Avoid such men as these.

Some that are involved in this move began with goodness and zeal. But, somewhere along the way, they sank down into an inferior gospel, an exaggeration of grace.

In their beginning, they had a beautiful conversion where they fell in love with Jesus. At the same time, they fell out of love with sin and the things of this world. Unfortunately, years later, they have migrated into this grace cult, and they’re not even the same person. They now practice and condone sins and habits that God had previously delivered them from.

I have kindly, privately asked some of them to stop openly being permissive toward alcohol and other sins and habits. But, they have declined my requests. Thus, they continue to empower others to live these compromised lives…in the name of grace.

It used to be that all the glory and focus went to Jesus, but this cult has put grace on the throne that Jesus alone should hold.

    Jesus saves

    Saved by grace

A twisting of the Scriptures has become a false gospel that has led many into deception, compromise, and lukewarmness.

Frightening lifestyle changes I have noticed coming from those in this cultish grace exaggeration include: permissible pornography, raunchy movies, they listen to more secular music than Christian music, alcohol consumption and occasional drunkenness, marijuana, cbd, thc, cussing, not tithing, not attending church.

True believers have the Holy Spirit that leads them onto the highway of holiness. Furthermore, sanctification is still a relevant, Scriptural experience.

On the other hand, those following the exaggerated grace ideologies have demons lying to them and telling them: A) that spiritual discipline is just religion B) all things are lawful and permissible to you C) nothing you take into your body is wrong D) marijuana is natural, God made it, it’s good E) Jesus drank, and wine and alcohol are ok according to the Bible.

Revival will look like John the Baptist and the axe is now being sharpened. Change is coming. We must weep for those who are deceived.

Eph 6:12a reminds us that our struggle is not against flesh and blood

These people are not our enemies. The enemy is the devils that are whispering the exaggerations of grace into their minds and into our culture.

  • On the Brink

The younger generation has something that has been lost by so many others. They have feelings. And, they’re brave enough to alert us when someone or something has wrongfully trespassed their sensitivities…or what is obviously inhumane or criminal.

They’re not always right. They’re young, immature, and inexperienced. Still, quickly dismissing them would be a naive mistake. And worse yet, distancing ourselves from them would be callous and cruel. They’re our sons and daughters, for crying out loud.

Calling them snowflakes, millennials, or other such spitefully soaked propaganda tags will only pollute our prophetic destiny. The enemy has enacted a plan, a diabolical plan to highjack an end time revival.

It seems the generation now entering adulthood has been filled with an innate gift of discernment. When sanctified, their gift could be remarkably transformative for individuals and even for entire countries.

But, if we —the older, wiser ones—allow the deceiver to continue to pit us against them with growing distrust and disdain, then we’re going to mess up what should be a double portion outpouring.

We are on the brink of a mighty move that should unite the wisdom, gifts, experience, hearts and dreams of the fathers with the revelation, gifts, zeal, hearts and visions of the sons. The Old Testament closes with this prophecy (Mal. 4:6). Joel also foretold of this momentous day (Joel 2).

So, let’s not mess it up or miss it. Let’s see through the enemy’s schemes. Let’s overcome satan’s divisive devices with the love of God propelling us toward each other… and towards the promises of God.

For now, let’s listen to them. Let’s allow our eyes to be healed of dryness. Let’s allow God to soften our aged, stubborn hearts. Let’s allow ourselves to feel again. And to be offended.

Racism, sexism, extremism, perversion, violence, and hate of any type should offend us.

For them, let’s pray they are washed in the blood of the Lamb, sanctified, and curbed from going too far in any particular emotional tangents.

Let’s pray that we can begin to run and work together. I truly believe the promise of the former and the latter are now swelling over our heads.

  • The Opposite Reality

A lament of religious systems, egotistical trends, and the selling of connections and coverings.

Religion couldn’t get a handle on John Baptist, and he wasn’t even hospitable to their interests.

Likewise, religious order was appalled at the phenomenal maverick that Christ was. He started the original Apostolic network…and it worked.

Unfortunately, many of today’s apostolic networks are nothing more than generic denominations.

Many of these young ministry leaders, and emerging voices are often plagued with an unhealthy drive to be popular. They busy themselves building a brand, a following. And, they often cheapen their appeal by putting a price tag on nearly everything. Their conferences, apostolic networks, coaching, workshops, training, are readily available…for the right price.

This isn’t what Jesus was trying to establish. This is a perversion of true Apostolic grace.

Throughout history, revival fires have been dampened by organization.

I recently overheard the curator at Cane Ridge Meeting House telling a group about notable miraculous happenings during that revival. The tourists were giving God praise. But, the curator interrupted them and said “oh no, the greatest miracle was the formation of this denomination.”

    He was wrong.

The scrambling to organize has nearly killed incredible revivals such as Cane Ridge, Azusa, Wales, and many more.

We’re not in need of more structures and organizations. Jesus is allowing such man-made temples to be torn down.

Many denominations began as revivals. We don’t need another whimsical network. And, we don’t need another denomination. But, we DO need another great revival.

I’m not altogether against organization. Even 1 Cor 14 ends with a plea for order.

I think the curator story draws the dividing line here.

I disagree with him wholeheartedly. I’m living my whole life to point out the opposite reality.

I concede there are benefits with wisdom, leadership, and Apostolic grace.

So, I’m excitedly watching. Jesus’ church is a beautiful thing, and we’re about to see it emerge from the ruins of failed religious structures. It’ll look more like family. It’ll even meet in homes and streets once again. It’ll be free of the charlatan money-changers. It’ll be led by the Holy-Ghost. It will be powerful.

  • The Higher Mountain

I’m familiar with a teaching on seven mountains that affect culture. Those mountains are:

    Arts & Entertainment

    Education

    Family

    Religion

    Business

    Government

    Media

However, my spirit is effervescent regarding a higher mountain right now.

The idols on the worldly mountains promise this-and-that, but ultimately they are lesser mountains…only partially capable of keeping such promises.

Instead of absolutely trusting God, the people of God sometimes opt for a seemingly easier route. They share their affection, instead, with an earthen mountain.

Sometimes Christians go so far as to inadvertently, and ignorantly, make the idol that they will have confidence in. Sadly, in such cases, they are not giving themselves wholeheartedly to the one God. They are not meeting God on His mountain. They are casting their vote for a created one thinking that will make the saving difference.

This breaking of the law is not obvious to the masses of God’s people. Sometimes only a remnant, or only one will notice and be broken up over it.

Nevertheless, it only takes one true hedge, gap, intercessor, savior. Moses wasn’t perfect, but he was willing to stand before God (and Pharaoh) for the sake of God’s people. Elijah wasn’t perfect, but while he perceived himself to be all alone…he continued making a difference. Jesus was called “the Lamb” and He gave Himself as the one perfect sacrifice.

There was this one time when, instead of only trusting God, the people wanted a man…a king. A governmental mountain. So, God obliged and gave us a man [Saul].

As that governmental, idolized man sinned in self-exaltation, God was all-the-while raising up a boy that was after his own heart.

This one would have a passion for a different mountain. The mount of Zion would be His passion. Like Moses who went up the hill of the Lord, David was chosen to dance into Zion. And, in the process, he cast off the governmental robe.

Also, at the well, a woman asked Jesus which mountain should one be called to, and Jesus disregarded the earthly mountains that were listed as options. He pointed to the Spirit that knew how to direct man’s worship to the One and only one.

Again, so many years later, this world, its mountains, and government has lured the attention of the people of God.

Maybe, we’ve mistakenly acquired another Saul. Maybe we’ve somewhat deified a man and have worshipped at an earthly mountain.

Whatever the case and condition, God is even now raising up small ones that are consumed with the notion of a higher mountain. A secret mountain. A mountain of transfiguration and revelation. A mountain where God comes down. A mountain where man can ascend with clean hands and touch Heaven.

Revival will not come through the mountains of this world. Revival will come through the mountain of our Lord.

The pulpits and prayer closets must again become more important than court rooms and high-place-palaces.

Certainly, it is true that some are sent to the world and it’s mountains. We are sent as salt and light. Some will make a difference in different places and in different ways. And, intercessors will be given burdens that sometimes assign them in prayer to specific mountains and leaders. Prophets will also have assignments to speak to mountains and leaders.

Remember, even Nineveh listened for a season and received salvation. Don’t doubt the plan of God. It’s an opportunity for goodness, even beyond our efforts.

For now, we must allow ourselves to be sanctified and not be improperly aligned with fools-gold-callings.

The world wants our allegiance. They want us to stay happy in the Goshen they give us. But let not your eyes and hearts be dazzled by anything, anyone, or any place in this world. Zion is calling us to a higher place of praise.

Zion, is another mountain. A holy, superior mountain.

  • After someone gives you a word…

    Hide Those Words.

Hide those words. Take those prophetic words you’re given, and hide them.

It can be helpful to share these words with your Pastor, or mentor, to hear their thoughts, wisdom, and council.

Other than that, hide those words. Tuck them deep into your heart. The Psalmist of

Psalm 119:11 understood this principle. And, Paul encouraged the Colossians to preserve the word…WITHIN them.

If we don’t hide the word, and if we don’t “tuck it within” we run risks. These risks include:

    1. we idolize the words and we keep hold of them like trophies

    2. If they aren’t hid and tucked away like a treasure in the vault, we might casually share our pearls before swine ( Matt 7:6). Alas, others might lend doubt and mockery which can possibly dampen our own faith and understanding.

    3. We can be tempted to show them…as validation for our own importance. Thus, they become traps that possibly ensnare us with pride.

    4. Even if our motives for openly sharing them are pure,

    A. others might be stricken with jealousy (like the brothers of Joseph). Or,

    B. People might mistake our genuine excitement as flamboyance and ego. (Consider Rom 14:16 Therefore do not let what is for you a good thing be spoken of as evil;

    5. Lastly, if not hidden in the guarded chamber of our inner sanctum —our heart— we risk losing the words to the demon birds (Matt 13:4) that will eat them up, stealing them from us. The enemy often attacks words that are given openly because he especially pays attention to prophecy and destiny. The devil isn’t afraid of who you are. He’s afraid of what you’re becoming.
